Housekeeping runs on its own tight window, and maintenance mostly doesn’t need covering overnight at all.
Five demands across a 6am–11pm day
The hotel sample models FrontDesk and Housekeeping as volume demands — front desk weighted higher during the check-in/check-out windows, housekeeping concentrated in its mid-morning cleaning block. SpanishSpeaker is a concurrent presence demand, same idea as the call center: whoever’s already on shift and bilingual covers it, no extra body needed. ManagerOnDuty is concurrent too, but needed every hour the desk is staffed — someone senior has to be reachable around the clock. Maintenance is its own volume demand, but only during daytime hours, because that’s when the work actually happens.
The overnight problem, solved without a special case
A lot of hotel scheduling headaches come from treating overnight as a special case that needs its own rules. Here it doesn’t: ManagerOnDuty is just a presence demand that happens to run 6am to 11pm, and whoever’s cross-trained — a senior front-desk agent working the late shift, for instance — satisfies it the same way anyone satisfies any concurrent demand. No separate “night auditor” logic required.
