…And sometimes I wonder why.
Anywho. I mostly do Excel gigs on Fiverr. Ah, by the way, Fiverr.com is a website and marketplace where freelancers showcase the “gigs” they are prepared to work on. There is some literature about Fiverr on Amazon. You can check what I offer on the top menu on this blog under “Services”, the submenu links to some of the gigs (and clicking “Services” links to my profile on Fiverr).
I have a love/hate relationship with Fiverr. I love it and they hate me. No. Wait. They love me and I hate them (it?). No, seriously, I go back and forth between loving it and hating it. I love it when I get to work on a fun project, one of those I’d do for free but still, people pay me for and even give me nice public feedback (is this too much to ask?) when they really like the results. And I hate it when people come with unrealistic expectations about what they can get for the money they offer and especially how off they are about how they can treat you only because they are paying. Or maybe it’s because of the anonymity effect of the internet where most are either nicer or more horrible than they are in real life (offline).
Back to the rant (the why I hate it part) Fiverr tends to run for buyers. I know, they have the money. But since everyone knows any dispute will end with the buyer’s win then the door to abuse is pretty much open. Sometimes Fiverr feels like a little bit of a sweatshop. Voluntary, but a sweatshop nonetheless.
I keep on hustling because one day I will be a “Fiverr Top Seller” with more pull, have better or bigger brand recognition, and all the hard work will have paid off. In the meantime (also a mean time) I am a lowly “Level 2” seller, nothing more than anywhere between a newbie and a top seller.
Thank you for putting up with the rant.
Have you tried freelancing online? Where? Have you tried “hiring” freelancers online?
PS I can help you with Excel macros, vlookup, pivot tables, conditional formatting, and formulas, and with optimization in Excel using Excel Solver, OpenSolver and SolverStudio.
PS2 If you are interested in anything I offer on Fiverr and want a 20% discount (Fiverr’s cut) contact me directly.
Now I am also offering online Excel lessons during the pandemic. Via TeamViewer or Zoom. This is the link to the gig https://www.fiverr.com/kindoflost/ms-excel-class-online
Thanks
