Google Fi Review

Google Fi, a wireless service operated by Google, is recommended by experts and users because of its affordable plans and international travel benefits.

Google Fi, formerly known as Project Fi, is partnered with T-Mobile, Sprint, and US Cellular, intelligently switching your phone from one network to another depending on your location.

In an effort to lower my cell phone bill without sacrificing phone service abroad, I switched to Google Fi because I intended to travel frequently. I signed up for the plan back in 2015 when it was really new.

In addition to its search engine, Google, Inc. provides a range of web-related services such as cloud computing and advertising. In 2015 Google launched Google Fi (then called Project Fi) in the telecommunications space. The Google Fi service combines cellular and Wi-Fi networks to provide cellular and short message service (SMS). In its capacity as an MVNO, Google Fi utilizes the T-Mobile and US Cellular networks without being owned by either of them. As of now, Google Fi serves only American consumers.

Google Fi plans

Google Fi offers three types of plans for you to choose from, so you can choose what works best for you:

  1. Flexible plan
  2. Simply Unlimited plan
  3. Unlimited plan

Google Fi Review lists the benefits of each plan. Here are some benefits of each plan:

Flexible plan benefits

This is the plan I use. I am paying $20 plus $10 per 1 GB of data. Plus fees and taxes.

  • Based on your data usage. If you don’t use it, you won’t pay.
  • US residents can call Canada and Mexico for free, and other destinations are affordable.
  • Ideal for users with low data usage. After 15 GB of use per member, data speed is reduced to 256 kbps.
  • Tethering at full speed for $10 per GB.

Simply Unlimited plan benefits

  • A fixed price that doesn’t change unexpectedly.
  • US, Canadian, and Mexican users can send unlimited text messages and data.
  • US residents can call Canada and Mexico for free, and other destinations are affordable.
  • Get 22 GB of unmetered data for free. Once a member has used 22 GB of data, the speed slows to 256 kbps. You can stream videos in 480p for DVD quality.

Unlimited plan benefits

  • A fixed price that does not fluctuate.
  • Over 120 international countries and regions with unlimited data and texts.
  • You can make free calls to over 50 countries, regions, or territories from the United States, and the cost is affordable to other regions.
  • Get 22 GB of unmetered data for free. After 22 GB of use per member, the data speed slowed to 256 kbps. DVD-quality videos may be available at 480p.
  • Google One members receive 100 GB of storage for free.
  • Tethering to a hotspot at full speed with no additional charge.

All these benefits come at a cheaper and more affordable rate.

Google Fi Reviews

The Google Fi reviews posted by users on the rebranded Google Fi app are heartwarming tributes to the service.

Over 80 percent of customers rate Fi at 5 stars, giving it an average rating of 4.5 out of 5. The lowered monthly bill and only paying for data used are attractive to customers. Google Fi’s app has a few complaints regarding call quality.

As such, this is consistent with wider perceptions of Google Fi, which has won PC Mag’s Readers’ Choice Award for three consecutive years. Other Google Fi reviews on Computerworld and Forbes highlight the service’s flawless customer service and streamlined billing. The Forbes reviewer cautioned that heavy data users wouldn’t find much satisfaction with Google Fi due to its limitations in terms of phone models supported.

As part of my Google Fi regular use, I tested it on both regular and optimized phones of family members. I found it to deliver a superior customer experience, despite cheaper plans from other carriers. The Google Fi plan is my favorite international travel plan.

Conclusion

Google Fi has many benefits, such as no contract, working in 120 countries, family plans, and good android phones. In my opinion and that of other Google Fi users, the Google Fi plans are great.
